You are what you consume

#This post is part of my 30 days writing challenge.

As part of a ritual that I picked up to kill a long boring dangerous commute while working in the desert, I started presenting to the imaginary crowd where I talk about random stuff.

Although I initially started it to stay awake and entertain myself, I do it now mainly to hone my speaking skills and to envision the future. This is what I have noticed and learned:

  1. I mostly talk about things that recently crossed my path through reading/discussions. 2 main takeaways:
    1. Be mindful of the recency effect. You are more likely to act on the most recent ideas/interactions which could be suboptimal.
    2. You are basically the result of what you consume and what you digest. So be selective!
  1. When I start talking about a positive experience, I noticed an immediate surge of positive vibes and dopamine. 1  takeaway:
    1. Inject short doses of dopamine throughout the day so you feel better and ultimately function better.
