How do you measure yourself?

#This post is part of my 30 days writing challenge.

While engaging in deep chatters with a friend over a very tasty & deeply overpriced coffee, a relative approached us, and upon exchanging copious kisses on the cheeks that luckily did not miss their intended target, he said:

“How are you doing  in Riyadh?”

To which I replied:

It is all good I am “” At “” doing this and that……

Simply I told him about my current role  and moved on then we parted our ways My friend then looked at me and said:

Wow he asked about you and then you immediately jumped to talk about your job. Isn’t that shocking and weird yet widely accepted and anticipated?

I started asking the following questions:

When someone asks you about what do you do? Do you feel excited? nervous? ashamed? Egoistic as ****? Happy? Normal?

When we assess people we know, do we ask about how fulfilled and happy they are? Whether or not they are content or do we assess them on the basis of their jobs and what they drive and the logos they bring to the table?

There is a very emerging hidden subtle segmentation or rather discrimination beyond racism; livingism or “what do you do for a living?“ism!!!

Over to you, how do you assess yourself? how do you measure your worth?

Interesting read. Your friend sounds like a wise man. I would love to meet him one day.
